Feeling a little “hormonal”?

Hormones are the leaders in making sure our brain is signaling our body to DO THE JOB RIGHT ! There are many different hormones in our body doing regulatory jobs. Below is a list of hormones that are the key players in our general health.

Estrogen
The main function for estrogen is to maintain healthy female reproductive system. However, estrogen plays an essential role in both men and women in that it sends grow signals to your body’s every cell, from your sexual organs to your bones.  Estrogen is also important in many different important aspects  such as controlling the menstruation period.

Cortisol

Cortisol is often known as the stress hormone and is responsible for our response to outside stressors. It itself is controlled by another hormone called corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH). It also increases blood sugar and suppresses the immune system. If you have too much stress, it can create a number of different health concerns such as weight gain, heart diseases and anxiety/depression.

Insulin

Insulin is a peptide hormone that is produced in the pancreas B cells. Its job is to handle carbohydrate and fat metabolism in the body which it does by encouraging fat tissues and muscles to absorb glucose from the blood. Insulin is the key player in reducing blood glucose levels in the blood after meals. People with diabetes I lack the ability to produce insulin. People with diabetes II have resistance to insulin functions.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone found naturally in the body. Melatonin is a hormone as well as a neurotransmitter which is responsible for regulating the internal body clock and the sleep-wake cycle. People who suffer from shadow sleep or insomnia often take melatonin supplements to help them sleep better.

Growth Hormone

Human growth hormone (GH) is a substance that controls your body’s growth. GH is made by the pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain. GH helps children grow taller, increases muscle mass, and decreases body fat. GH is important in both children and adults because it also helps control the body’s metabolism. GH is also important in bone and spine health.
